Experience
Dr. Woodall has been working in environmental and public
health for over thirty years. His technical
experience includes air and water quality management, environmental sampling,
and assessments of human health risk. He
has also worked on both the industrial advocacy and Agency support sides of
regulatory development. He has managed research efforts to help inform the
development of regulatory actions and development of health protective
guidelines. He is currently a Toxicologist with the National Center for
Environmental Assessment (NCEA) within the Office of Research and Development
(ORD) of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). His work at NCEA has
focused on the development and use of health effect reference values, with
particular emphasis on inhalation exposures for chronic as well as acute and
other “less-than-lifetime” durations.
Work efforts include development of IRIS assessments (see
http://www.epa.gov/iris/); serving as the ORD representative to the National
Advisory Committee for Acute Exposure Guideline Levels
(http://www.epa.gov/oppt/aegl/); and providing technical support to EPA Program
Offices, especially the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards. He served as a member of the U.S. delegation
working on Office of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Acute
Inhalation test guidelines (2006-2009) and served as the Chair of an Expert
Work Group developing an OECD Guidance Document for Deriving an Acute Reference
Concentration (finalized in 2011). He also participates in a number of Agency
and cross-Agency work groups.
